The archiving function involves the existence not only of a paper archive but also of a unique electronic archive in the Court. By being compatible and interoperable with the Court's existing computer processing systems, it preserves the generated documents, thus guaranteeing the integrity, authenticity, confidentiality, quality, protection and conservation of these documents and ensuring the continuity of the documentary series regardless of their medium.

This involves the development of various tools for standardised document management, including:

  • A metadata scheme, based on technical standards for the development of the National Interoperability Scheme, which allows for the integration of different applications and the secure identification of each document.
  • A catalogue of procedures, currently in preparation, which includes the steps of each procedure and the types of documents in which they are reflected.
  • A classification table categorising the functions and activities carried out by the Constitutional Court and linking them to the documents generated in the exercise of those functions and activities. Likewise, there will be as many classification tables as there are collections from other sources which are integrated into the archive.

A documentary collection is the organised and classified set of all the documents generated or accumulated throughout its existence by an institution in the fulfilment of its own functions. Among its documentary collection, the General Archive of the Constitutional Court safeguards, apart from its own, documentation from other collections that have been received through various means (transfer, donation or deposit):
