By
Agreement of 29 March 2001 of the Plenary of the Constitutional Court, the Historical-Documentary Fund of the Constitutional Court is created, with the aim of being integrated preferably by as many texts and documents provided, for this purpose, by the Emeritus Judges of the Court. On the same date, the Plenary of the Constitutional Court adopted a decision amending the list of jobs in the Constitutional Body, creating, among other posts, that of
Archive Technician.
Soon, however, the initial objective of the aforementioned Fund was overwhelmed by the need for global management of the Court's documentation. Thus, by
Agreement of 23 July 2002 of the Plenary of the Constitutional Court, the structure and functioning of the Archive of the Constitutional Court is regulated, the types of archives existing in the organisation of the Court's archival system are established and the procedures for transfer and temporary removal are also regulated. This Agreement creates the General Archive unit, which fulfils the functions of central and historical archive. This establishes a Unit responsible for the standardised archival treatment of the Tribunal's documentary heritage, until that moment the responsibility of various bodies within it. Subsequently, the Archive unit is referred to in Article 31 of the
Regulation on the Organization and Personnel of the Constitutional Court (approved by the Agreement of 5 July 1990 of the Plenary of the Constitutional Court in its wording given by the Agreement of 19 December 2002).
The General Archive of the Constitutional Court is responsible for the archival management of all documentation, in any medium, generated or collected by the Court in the exercise of the activities attributed to it by the Constitution and its Organic Law, whether jurisdictional, governmental or administrative, in the service of
- The proper management of matters within the Court's competence and the effective implementation of the principle of efficiency in its actions.
- The expectations of citizens in all matters relating to the operation and use of the archival resources of the Constitutional Court.
- The conservation of documentary heritage for the fulfilment of the social purposes referred to in this respect by the Constitution
Reporting to the General Secretariat through the Management Service, the General Archive Unit of the Constitutional Court aims to offer an efficient, permanent and quality service that ensures the satisfaction of its users.
