“The principles of proportionality and reasonableness in constitutional case-law, including the jurisprudence of the European courts”.

Rome, 24-27 October 2013

The Spanish Constitutional Court participated in the 15th edition of the trilateral conference organised each year by the Constitutional Courts of Italy, Portugal and Spain, which was held on this occasion in Rome from 24 to 26 October, with the theme "Principles of proportionality and reasonableness in constitutional case-law, including the jurisprudence of the European Courts".

A delegation composed of the President of the Constitutional Court, M. Francisco Pérez de los Cobos Orihuel, as well as the magistrates Encarnación Roca Trías, Andrés Ollero Tassara, Luis Ignacio Ortega Álvarez and Santiago Martínez-Vares García, participated in this event. Magistrate Roca Trías was in charge of giving the presentation on "Los principios de razonabilidad y proporcionalidad en la jurisdicción constitucional española" (full text).

As in previous years, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss both legal issues faced by the Constitutional Courts of the three countries and how to resolve them.

The previous meeting of the trilateral conference was held in Lisbon in 2012 and the next meeting will take place next year in Spain.
